As it is now the second half of the year, our OSCH Club staff are no longer picking up the Prep children from their classrooms after school. They have told the kids they are allowed to walk up to the building themselves which the students think is wonderful! However, by the end of the day a lot has happened in a Prep’s world and suddenly, their reminder in the morning from parents can get lost! If your child has regular OSCH Club days it might be a good idea to write the days down for your classroom teacher to keep so there is no confusion about pick up time. Also, if your child is feeling nervous about the walk, let the teacher know because there will be other kids we can buddy them up with in other classes or we can do the first walk with them. We also have some classes being dismissed by Specialist teachers as the timetable has changed so the Prep teachers would like to let them know to remind the kids.

Wow the year is flying.

Stay warm everyone!

Reports and Celebration Books

By now most families will have received their reports and Celebration Books at dismissal today. Alternative family reports are being posted this afternoon, as well as those who have made arrangements with classroom teachers. We would appreciate all Celebration Books back by Friday after you have looked at the beautiful work your children are proud to share with you.

It is worth noting that teachers are required to write progress reports and make judgments based upon the evidence we see throughout the year, but that there are many things we do not include that we’d love to share with you.  We simply cannot fit it all in! The time they helped their friend when they fell over, the time they asked a sad friend if they were ok or the time they made the class laugh so hard they couldn’t stop make our students so wonderful and unique.

We are extremely proud of our Preps for settling into school life, making new friends and learning so many concepts already. They have all done an amazing job of navigating the school grounds, remembering their manners and following the school rules. They are all on their own learning journey and have strengths in lots of areas that may not be covered in their report. If you have any questions at any time throughout the year, please feel free to ask. For extended conversations it is beneficial to make a time with your teacher so we can give you our full attention. (You may have noticed that 9am is not as easy to catch us!)

Thank you for your support this semester. We are looking forward to seeing what your children can achieve in the second half of the year.

We all had so much fun reconnecting and lunching with our buddies! Thanks to Miss Wright and Mrs Crossman who coordinate the dates and times we meet up so we can get to know other people in our school. The teachers also love catching up with different students and seeing former students flourish in their roles as mentors for the younger kids. More photos to come!

Indonesian Cooking Fun!

Last week the junior grades joined Miss Ireland in Indonesian to learn about Indonesian food. Students were taught about popular dishes in Indonesia with Miss Ireland bringing in some yummy curries, snacks and Nasi goreng for students to admire. Students then joined in on making and tasting traditional Javanese banana pancakes! YUM!

A BIG thank you to Miss Ireland from the Prep teachers for doing such a wonderful activity with our kids! They will miss Indonesian next term as they will have Computers for second semester. Luckily, Miss Ireland will be around the school and I am sure the Preps will love seeing her on yard duty and practising their Indonesian words.

You may have seen this sign in the window of your classroom on Friday but if not, we’d like to make you aware that other literacy assessments are going to take up our OWL word testing time this week. Take an extra week to really consolidate old and new lists and keep enjoying your take home books! Thank you for your understanding.
